Google LLC is an American multinational corporation from the United States. It is recognised for developing and managing one of the biggest search engines on the Internet (WWW). More than a billion people use it daily. The "Googleplex," or the headquarters of Google, is located in Mountain View, California, a city that is a part of Silicon Valley. "Do the right thing" serves as Google's motto.
Table Of Content
Google has been a part of the Alphabet Inc. holding company's portfolio since September 2, 2015. Some of Google's other ventures, including its driverless car programme, have been taken up by that firm. It is a publicly traded corporation that uses the tickers GOOG and GOOGL to trade on the NASDAQ.
Images, movies, news, Usenet newsgroups, and items for online purchase can all be found with Google's search engine. Six billion items, including 4.28 billion web pages, 880 million images, and 845 million Usenet communications, were stored in Google's database as of June 2004. With an Alexa ranking of 1, Google's American website is the most popular website in the entire globe. As a result of its widespread use, people occasionally use the word "google" as a verb that denotes "to search for something on Google." Google has also come to mean "to search the web" because more than 50% of internet users use it.
History
BackRub was founded in early 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, two Stanford University undergraduates from the United States. On September 7, 1998, they turned it into a business called Google Inc. in a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California. The business relocated to 165 University Ave. in Palo Alto, California, in February 1999 before moving to the Googleplex.
Google's PageRank rating algorithm, which determines which information is more helpful, was granted a U.S. Patent in September 2001. Lawrence (Larry) Page was the inventor and Stanford University was the recipient of the patent (the person who first had the idea).
A portion of Google's revenue comes from America Online and InterActiveCorp. It has a unique team called the Partner Solutions Organization (PSO) that assists with contract creation, account improvement, and engineering support.
Advertising
Google generates revenue through advertising. Google receives funding from individuals or businesses who want people to buy their goods, services, or concepts. In exchange, Google displays advertisements to users it anticipates will click on them. Google aims to learn as much information about people as it can in order to only show the ads to the "appropriate people" as it only makes money when people click on the link. Google Analytics, which transmits information to Google each time a website is accessed, is used to do this. Google creates a profile of the user using this and other data, and utilises this profile to decide which advertising to display.
Branding
The term "googol" is misspelt in the name "Google." This term, coined in 1937 by Milton Sirotta, the nephew of American mathematician Edward Kasner, refers to the number 1 followed by 100 zeros (10100). Google uses this term because it wants to make it simple to find and use a variety of online resources. Andy Bechtolsheim came up with the moniker.
The "googolplex," which is 1 followed by one googol of zeroes 1010100, is a play on a different, even larger number, and is the name of Google's main office.
